  4. Country Description:  Nauru is a constitutional republic with a
  5. parliamentary system of government.  Its economy is based on the export of
  6. phosphates.  Tourist facilities are available on a limited basis.  Yaren,
  7. the capital, has an international airport.

  9. Entry Requirements:  Passports, visas, and onward/return tickets are
  10. required.  Further specific information is available from the Consulate of
  11. the Republic of Nauru, First Floor, ADA Professional Building, Marine Drive,
  12. in Agana, Guam.  The telephone number is (671) 649-8300, with the mailing
  13. address P.O. Box A.M., Agana, Guam, 96910.

  15. Medical Facilities:  Health care facilities in the Republic of Nauru are
  16. adequate for routine medical problems.  U.S. medical insurance is not always
  17. valid outside the United States.  Supplemental Medical insurance which
  18. specifically covers overseas treatment has proven to be useful to travelers.

  20. telephone number (404) 332-4559 has additional useful health information.

  22. Information on Crime:  The crime rate in the Republic of Nauru is low.  The
  23. loss or theft abroad of a U.S. passport should be reported immediately to
  24. the local police and to the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.  Useful
  25. information on guarding valuables and protecting personal security while
  26. traveling abroad is provided in the Department of State pamphlet, "A Safe
  27. Trip Abroad."  It is available from the Superintendent of Documents, U.S.

  30. Drug Penalties:  Travelers are subject to the laws and legal practices of
  31. the country in which they travel.  Penalties for possession, use, or
  32. trafficking in illegal drugs are strict, and convicted offenders can expect
  33. jail sentences and fines.

  35. Registration:  Americans who register at the U.S. Embassy in Suva, Fiji can
  36. obtain up-to-date information on travel and security in Nauru.

  38. Embassy Location:  There is no U.S. Embassy or other diplomatic post in
  39. Nauru.  Assistance for U.S. citizens is available at the U.S. Embassy in
  40. Fiji located at 31 Loftus Street in the capital city of Suva.  The telephone
